There’s always something new or interesting to see at the Botanic Gardens. This is what we found today.
A Royal Spoonbill (Platalea regia) looking majestic.
The Keen Spotter then saw this tiny nest in the top of a willow tree. A pair of Magpie Larks (Grallina cyanoleuca) are raising a baby.
The Spoonbill we had seen earlier was showing a lot of interest in some sticks by the water’s edge. It didn’t seem to be making much progress, but it tipped us off that there is probably a nest under construction. A few minutes later we saw a different bird doing some heavy haulage.
A pair of ducks decided that the lake wasn’t big enough for both of them. An initial attack was met with a determined response. They were seriously trying to kill each other.
In the distance, a Little Black Cormorant (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris) flew into the lake.
